La falaise
Ce tableau qui est très certainement une gouache sur papier cartonné n’est pas signé et porte le cachet de l’atelier Vessal. Circa début XXe siècle.
On y voit un paysage naturel dominé par une grande falaise claire, presque blanche, aux reflets bleutés et violets. La paroi rocheuse occupe la partie droite de la composition et est entourée de végétation aux tons verts, jaunes et bruns. À sa base, un chemin ou une étendue de terre claire serpente, bordée par des zones de verdure. À gauche, on aperçoit une ouverture vers l’horizon avec des collines ou montagnes lointaines peintes dans des nuances de bleu et de violet, qui apportent de la profondeur à la scène. Le ciel, traité dans des tons beiges et légèrement bleutés, reste assez neutre, ce qui met davantage en valeur la falaise et la végétation. L’ensemble est vraiment harmonieux et la palette superbe. On pense à la Normandie ou les côtes du nord de la France.
